The weight of the geotextil, which is a physical characteristic, does not have any importance at the time of specifying a geotextil, since it will be its hydraulic characteristics (to fulfill the filtration functions) and mechanics characteristics (to withstand the stresses that will be presented in geotechnical applications) those that must define the product, independently of its field of application. Unfortunately there are still seen too many projects where the geotextiles are specified by the weight.
Would we be capable of defining tubes for its weight? Here everybody is sure of it; the important thing is the discharge capacity and its circumferential rigidity. The same question should be asked for geotextiles and we would understand the illogical thing that is, for the reasons stated above
